Rainy Day Blues

A few months ago, I made warm fleecy coats for Keli and Penny . One of the other patterns in the pack was for a hoodie/raincoat, and I've been thinking about making coordinating raincoats for the two Westies. Neither one of them likes to go "out" in the rain, and trying to dry off two wet doggies at the same time is an adventure, to say the least. I thought that if I could just put a couple of hoodies on them, it might make us all a little happier when it's time to go "out". So, I may have mentioned to a few people last month that I was looking for cast-off raincoats, preferable little girls' pink or purple coats that I could recycle into dog coats. Elora's mom, Laurie found this cute little coat for $1 and couldn't resist sending it to us for Penny: Thanks Aunt Laurie! This could only be worn by Penny, since it's the largest they had and it's a Medium. Imagine how small the XS would be! The only problem with this coat is that there i

Penny goes to School - weeks seven and eight

Previously: Week One , Week Two , Week Three , Weeks Four, Five and Six Well, we made it to the end of the beginner education class! On the way to our seventh training session, I took Penny to the dog park for an hour to run around; I decided she'd either be nice and tired for our class or totally wired up and ready to go. She had a very nice time with the other small dogs and was actually kind of mellow by the time we got to class. At the beginning of the session, our trainer announced that we would be having a "practice test" to see how well we had learned all the previous assignments in preparation for our final session and the "real" test. As soon as she mentioned a "test", all the dogs in class starting howling and barking at once, as if on cue. I guess they didn't like the idea of a pop quiz! How did Penny do on the practice test? Not too bad, actually. We started out by walking around with our dogs (they were supposed to walk nicely

Elora's Essay

Today we are sharing an essay from Elora B., age 11, who came to visit us in March: When I first met Penny This story is about 2 of my aunt and uncle's dogs. Their names are Keli and Penny. Keli is the older one and Penny is the younger one. Penny is only a puppy. Keli is about 6 years old. My Aunt Donna and Uncle Richie just got Penny a few months ago. They got her from a shelter. When they first got her, her name was Wendy. They didn't like that name very much because their old dog was also named Wendy it was just spelled differently. {Editor's note: Actually, our first Westie's name was Wyndi and the similarity was one reason we were drawn to Wendy, but it was just too similar to keep.} They are all the same breed of dog. This breed is called a White West Highland Terrier. "Westie" for short. My aunt and uncle got Penny because they always thought that Keli was lonely. She was always so quiet and didn't want to play anything. So my aunt went online to
