While I was out shopping this week, I spotted this book: Hello Cupcake! Of course I was drawn to it because of the cover. The fact that I had a coupon for 40% off helped seal the deal, and it ended up coming home with me. As I read the table of contents, I was delighted to see an entire entry devoted to Westies, although the authors seem to be as confused as most other people about the difference between Scotties, Westies and Cairn terriers, since they include black and multi-colored "Westies" in their instructions. Regardless, they are really cute and look delicious! There is another set of instructions for Pupcakes, featuring many other breeds, Schnauzers included. I've read most of the instructions, and they seem pretty clear and simple to follow. The only drawback is that for most of the piping and decorating, the authors use a *lot* of Ziploc freezer bags. This may be an easy to find and inexpensive tool, but it seems to be unnecessary plastic ending up ...
We don't really like to wear dresses for the holidays, but we do like to look special and these bandana-style collar slipcovers and scrunchie neck ruffles keep us looking stylish. Penny models a Poinsettia and Roses Bandana style collar slipcover. She wears a size Medium - which means the triangle section has a "drop" of about 6 inches from the top of the bandana to the point. The casing that her collar slips through is about 3" longer than her collar so it covers it completely. Larger or smaller sized bandanas are scaled up or down so that the triangle section is longer or shorter for bigger or smaller pups. Large bandanas are about an inch longer with a 7 inch drop; Small bandanas are about an inch shorter with a 5 inch drop. The channel is custom sized in length and width, depending on actual collar sizes. Keli (below) models a Large Classic Christmas Plaid Bandana collar slipcover - the plaid fabric is a cotton/metallic blend so it is just a bit sparkly...
Today we are sharing an essay from Elora B., age 11, who came to visit us in March: When I first met Penny This story is about 2 of my aunt and uncle's dogs. Their names are Keli and Penny. Keli is the older one and Penny is the younger one. Penny is only a puppy. Keli is about 6 years old. My Aunt Donna and Uncle Richie just got Penny a few months ago. They got her from a shelter. They didn't like that name very much because their old dog was also named Wendy it was just spelled differently. {Editor's note: Actually, our first Westie's name was Wyndi and the similarity was one reason we were drawn to Wendy, but it was just too similar to keep.} They are all the same breed of dog. This breed is called a White West Highland Terrier. "Westie" for short. My aunt and uncle got Penny because they always thought that Keli was lonely. She was always so quiet and didn't want to play anything. So my aunt went online to...
